“Four score and seven years ago …” — these six words are among the most famous in the American story. What follows them is among the most renowned speeches in U.S. history, and among its most beautiful. In a profoundly moving yet brief 272 words, mere months after one of the bloodiest battles deep in the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln expressed both a nation’s grief and the Union’s resolve “that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.”
This print celebrates this outstanding piece of American discourse. The text of the Gettysburg Address is beautifully typeset in readable, modern type. While several versions of the Gettysburg Address exist, differing in wording, punctuation, and structure, this particular text is taken from the “Bliss copy”, displayed in the Lincoln Room at the White House and the version inscribed on the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. It is also the only version Lincoln himself signed — with his signature on the Bliss copy depicted on this print.
Above the speech, behind the title, the handwritten text of the Bliss copy fades into Union blue. Below, a depiction of the Battle of Gettysburg, created circa 1864 and now in the collection of the Library of Congress, fades into the background. The location and date of the address are toward the bottom of the print. (While modern scholarship indicates that the speech was likely given in the neighboring Evergreen Cemetery, the occasion was the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery — then called the Soldiers’ National Cemetery — so this is the location indicated on this print.)

These files should not be modified in any way, compiled with other electronic files, or transmitted to others by any electronic or internet means.
Prints are not framed
Please note that, to keep my costs low and to pass those savings on to you, prints are not framed. All prints are shipped rolled in sturdy shipping tubes.

Packing slip
To save weight on shipments, which saves shipping costs, as well as to reduce paper waste, I do not include a packing slip with my shipments. If you would like a packing slip included in your shipment, please message me at the time you place your order. When free shipping is offered on an item, note that it will be shipped via the lowest-cost service, even if you select a higher-cost service (such as USPS Priority Mail) at checkout.
Not all the items I ordered arrived in the package I received. Where is the rest of my order?
Please note that, because of the various production techniques I use, some orders may arrive in two or more separate packages. You will receive tracking information for each package when it ships.
I purchased the digital version of one of your prints by accident. Can I get a refund?
Yes — as long as you haven’t downloaded it yet (and yes, I can see on my end whether you’ve downloaded it or not). If you’ve purchased the digital version by accident, DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT and let me know of the error. We’ll make it right through a refund or exchange, or by figuring out another solution. But once you download the PDF, your purchase can’t be refunded, because there’s no reliable way for me to verify that you’ve deleted the downloaded file from your computer or other storage devices.
